District gave us an Associate Appreciation Meal for a great inventory.

I don't want to sound unappreciative, but when a company plans to show associate appreciation Meal, it should be completely inclusive, including everyone- not just the day worker. Let me explain. The ...

  • they should have gotten a catering service that could deliver meals thur out the day like they do with our holiday meals and the few times we got meals for a good inventory it's usually been pizza or BBQ delivered starting at 9am and then every few hours till 1am
  • There haven’t been any inventories since 10/31.
  • Stores could do better: In 2018: When still a 24-hour operation, the holiday meal was announced in advance and was completely catered by an outside company. That company set up chafing dishes to keep foods hot, and then on site in three different stages. One serving at around noon, then next was around 6pm and the third was around 12 midnight. Associates were provided a choice of three vest pins designating the year. The menu had three meats, vegetables, breads, desserts, and soft drinks. Tables were set with holiday tablecloths and centerpieces. Associates not scheduled that day were encouraged to drop in. It was good times.
  • This isn’t how you’d expect it to go? Are you new to the company? Actually, this does sound like a more screwed up situation than is the norm. Sorry this didn’t go well for ya’ll. Congratulations on the good inventory. Not many stores had them this year from what I’ve heard.

  • TBH, this sub would be a great place to start a union but there are so many nay-sayers that it wouldn't launch because everyone would downvote it.

ILOA Frustrations

Just need to vent a little. I have approved Intermittent Leave through Sedgwick. Because the holiday season has been extremely taxing on my health I used 2 out of 3 of my allotted days in December. O...

  • Notifications about any kind of LOA go to the PL and SM also. If your supervisor/Coach isn't properly recording whether something is approved or denied I would talk to one of them, probably the PL first and take it from there. You can continue to go up the chain if needed.
  • If you have an ILoA and decide to use one of the days, you have no notify Walmart of the absence and you also have to notify Sedgwick of the absence within 24 hours. That should automatically remove the point. There's no need to get management involved.
  • Chill the fuck out. (Your words, I would never say this especially to someone who is experiencing a shit ton of anxiety lol) People are stressed the fuck out right now. We have a coach that has lost his cool in my presence twice now. Third time is gonna result in an open door. I’m tired of listening to him freak out because he can’t handle his shit. There is no place for it in the work place. My coach and TL are amazing but they both look like they could use a vacation lol. I thought my lead was really upset today but turns out he was just exhausted. I say all this to say people handle the stress differently. And retail is a shit job. It’s hard to separate your anxiety from your need to have approval. He might be annoyed. He might just be stressed. He might just be having a shit day. Who knows. Ask him directly about it and voice your concern about how you took it. Hopefully that conversation goes well. If not…. Fuck him. For real though, fuck him. FMLA is a federal law and the reason we have to deal Sedgwick is because of the propensity of assholes to retaliate. This takes it totally out of their hands. I’ve had it for years at different jobs because of severe IBS. You are guaranteed 12 weeks of leave a year. I’ve worked for a few Walmarts and some were great, others sucked. At one I did end up exhausting my leave and as I came in one day the SM stopped me at the door and said I need you to tell me you quit. I was like what?!? He said just do it and I will call you in half an hour. So I was like uh… I quit? So he calls half an hour later and was like so yeah you exhausted your leave and I was told to fire you but since you quit before I could do that you can reapply in 6 months and you are still in good standing with Walmart. Take care of yourself and let me know if you want your job back. I ended up leaving for where I grew up and was then hospitalized shortly after and almost died. He was a stand up guy and minimized the impact on me as much as he could because he realized my health was not my fault. At another store I was denied a promotion because of my fmla. Which is illegal and I should have pushed the issue and got him fired but I was moving on to another job anyway and simply didn’t want to deal with it. He was an asshole and I regret not making him pay the price for it. FMLA is a serious issue and ethics does not fuck around with it. It’s major fines as well as a liability for personal lawsuits that as long as you did what you were supposed to do results in them wanting to settle immediately because juries don’t fuck around with that shit either. If there is a hint of retaliation document it. Document why you called out and when. If you have questions about your intermittent leave ask Sedgwick what your approved circumstances are. If your TL or coach does have some sort of issue with it, ITS THEIR FUCKING PROBLEM and not yours. They don’t have to like it but believe me when I say either through their own or by force from home office they will have to respect it. Personally I’ve had some short leaves because of medical shit but when I’m at work I bust my ass and for months have not accrued any points. I racked em up quick and all of its dropped off. My managers know it’s a fluke thing that went on and they understand. But again I go above and beyond my job title when I’m there. Mostly it’s to prove to them how good an employee I am and my own pride. Neither my coach or TL had any issue with my leaves though so it was mostly for me lol. Sorry this was so long but I wanted to be through because I understand the stress of this situation. Hopefully as someone who also has health issues this was helpful to understand that it’s not your fault you have health issues and it does not reflect on your character. So chill the fuck out 😉 If they have a problem with it, it’s their problem and anyone who does not understand that some people have health challenges is not someone you need validation from anyway. Good luck to ya and I truly hope you find some great doctors to take care of ya.
