• Some people already answered, but here are my two cents (maybe they'll be similar to the others, maybe not). First of all, be aware that Mastodon and the Fediverse overall are decentralized, so each server has its own rules, make sure to read them before joining (and if you joined one that doesn't fit your need, you can move, more on that later.) "How is the community?" While there isn't one community but communities, it's positive overall. Now, there is a very small but loud minority of gatekeepers (nicknamed the HOA for most and the Mastodon Taliban for the worst offenders) who are going to try to dictate the way you should use the Fediverse. To put it politely: screw them and block on sight. The only rules you need to follow are the ones of the server you join. "How is the policy about “AI art”" It's often frowned upon, but not everywhere. Once again, it depends on servers. "I’d be really glad if I shouldn’t deal with my feed filling with AI crap after liking a random drawing." It's not gonna happen. There is no algorithm that decides what you see in your feed. You decide what you see in your feed by following people, hashtags, etc. The only algorithm is the reverse chronological algorithm. "Is there any severe rule about nude art?" Each server has its own rules. "I know that Mastodon has communities but I understand it’s not exactly like here on Reddit. I usually do character concept art, illustrations, small comic about my stories etc. Is there a community about these stuff or a server about general art? And if there are various specific servers, can I subscribe to various servers and all of them show what I posted? How does this really work?" Someone may have already explained, but some servers are generalists, some other servers are specialists and geared towards different topic. However, servers are also federated so you can be seen by or see people from other servers, you just need to follow them. If you join Mastodon, the best way to get started is to follow hashtags that you care about. All in all, what server you join is not really important. Some people prefer large servers (and don't care about the local timeline, some people prefer smaller more focused servers and use the local timeline a lot to find people). I started on Mastodon.social, spent a couple of years on a smaller server and nowadays I'm on a solo server (and I never really cared for the local feeds). Once again, you can move servers. Just know that while you can transfer your following/follower/block/etc lists, you can't transfer your posts on Mastodon (there are other platforms where you can). Talking about platforms and servers, if you really only want to post art and nothing else, Pixelfed may be a better choice for you instead of Mastodon (they all communicate). Sharkey or IceShrimp are also interesting choices you could look into. One warning: DO NOT for any reason join mastodon.art! A lot of artists do, thinking it's a somewhat "official" server for artists. There is no such thing as an official server, and Mastodon.art's admin is one of the worst Mastodon Taliban. She'll block entire servers because she dislikes what one person does on this server and other stupid things like this. An advice I give anyone on the Fediverse is: know who your admin is. Honestly, unless you know personally someone who can advise you a specific server, just go with one of the main ones (regardless if it's Mastodon, PixelFed, Sharkey or else) learn the ropes. If you're happy there, stay there, if not, once you get to know more servers, just move to one you like more. "How is the community towards LGBTQ+?" Most of the Fediverse is very progressive and very LGBTQ+ friendly. I hope this helps.

• >I know that Mastodon has communities but I understand it’s not exactly like here on Reddit....if there are various specific servers, can I subscribe to various servers and all of them show what I posted? How does this really work? You subscribe to (follow) users rather than servers (instances). Users of an instance can see their own instance's content and content from remote users that their own instance's users are subscribed to. The largest instance, with the most content, is [Mastodon.social](https://mastodon.social). Some people find it's better to join a more focused instance to pare down on the amount of irrelevant content at the cost of making it significantly harder for their own content to be discovered. >How is the community? I had bad experiences interacting with people online on Instagram and I’m kind of tired of the perpetually aggressive people on my comments....Also don’t want to have problems about posting a drawing...and get blasted Short answer: It'll be great for you. Long answer: Depends on who you are and where you join. There are certain instances that are unsafe for you in particular because of who you are, but chances are you won't run into users from those instances due to a handful of influential instances sharing blocklists. You won't accidentally sign up on them because it'll be pretty obvious what they're about. I don't think you'll have a problem with this, but most of the more influential instances have strong political leanings and actively try to moralize across the network (for example by banning users from other instances). It doesn't sound like you're going to be doing anything that'll offend them, but be sure to obey the rules of the instance you're joining. Mastodon.social seems fairly reasonable. >Is there any severe rule about nude art? Not NSFW art specifically. I mean more artistically chosen nudity when needed or I feel like it. You should be fine. Most instances will at minimum ask you to hide it behind a content warning. Content warnings are one of the things that cause more militant instances to ban other instances. In terms of genre, western-style illustrations or the less stylized illustrations from the example you gave should be fine. >How is the policy about “AI art” Ranges from allowed to completely banned. Mastodon.social does not allow it to be the primary focus of an account. >I’d be really glad if I shouldn’t deal with my feed filling with AI crap after liking a random drawing. You'll be more concerned about your feed *not* filling with relevant content after liking something. There's no algorithm to suggest to you related content, and the requirement to follow users to see their content if they're on a remote instance can make it hard to find things you like.
• All of those questions depend on which server you join. Mastodon isn't like Reddit where all the boards are on and accessible from one central site. Every mastodon instance/server is its own completely self hosted site with its own rules and communities. my best advice is take a look through join mastodon.com and find a server you like and just give it a try. As for content you don't want to see, mastodon has filters you can set up so you won't see posts or comments with specific keywords or hashtags that you don't want to see.
• The community depends on the server and the people on it. For the most part, 97% of the servers out there are welcoming and support their users. The rule on AI Art will depend on the owner of the server and the admins. Some will allow it full cloth, others won't, and others will allow it as long as it's labeled. Mastodon servers don't have algorithms, so your feed should only be the people you fallow, and in order from the newest post to oldest. So if you like a random post, it doesn't change your feed. NSFW, 18A and/or porn will depend on the server and their rules. You only need to join one server, and people from other servers can fallow you, and you can fallow them without needing an account on the server they're on. To fallow someone it would be their user name fallowed by the server. So for me it would be @[email protected] No matter what server you're on, # are your friends. No matter what server you're on (as long as it's not block) people will be able to find your stuff.
