Help Needed: How to Secure a Refund from Booking.com for a Breach of Service

Hi everyone, I’m reaching out for advice on how to handle a frustrating situation with a hotel I booked through Booking.com. Despite being a frequent user of the platform, my recent experience has ...

 • Depending on the state this happened in you are not getting your money back even if you charge back. You booked with booking.com most of those reservations are non-refundable its in the TOS when you book the room the only way you get your money back on those is if the hotel refused service. When you chargeback you will get your money back temporarily but they will send in the TOS to your card company showing that your stay was non-refundable and the card company will reverse the charge back leaving you with the bill.
 • >However, the hotel management forced me to pay for four extra nights, which I find completely unacceptable. This sounds like you tried to check out early and they held you to what you originally booked?
 • This is why you don't book third party, the hotel didn't charge you 4 extra nights, booking.com did. And they are your only means for a refund and in my experience as a hotel worker they will refuse unless there was a body in the room when you get there. Your charge back will probably get you banned from the platform, but if you don't plan on using them again I'd go that route
 • So there's a few inaccuracies in the other comments here so I'll go through how payments, changes and possible refunds work in regards to Booking.com. 1. Booking a non-refundable room means that you pay the charge at the time of booking. The Hotel then receives a virtual card from [Booking.com](http://Booking.com) and can then choose to charge that card immediately or wait until the day of check-in/check-out or even up to 12 months after your date of booking. I don't know of any hotel that would wait that long however as that's just silly. Most hotels I've worked in/with charge the card as soon as they get the card details or on the day of arrival. 2. Not all bookings through Booking.com are pre-paid unless the hotel has chosen to ONLY allow pre-paid bookings through booking.com. In Europe, that's very rare and the majority of bookings need to be paid for at the property, with your own, physical credit-/debit-card. 3. There is always some sort of ToS included in your booking, usually these are included on any check-in form that you might or might not have to sign on arrival. The hotel decides whether or not to waive any fees for the booking and there's not much you can do if they choose not to. Most likely in your case, [booking.com](http://booking.com) will not budge since you paid the full amount at the hotel and didn't contest the charges at that time (from what I understand from your post anyways). Also, demanding a refund for a shoddy wi-fi and the lack of laundry-services is a bit of a stretch imo. Was the lack of wi-fi due to the wi-fi simply not being strong enough ***for your purposes*** or was it completely non-existent? Two different things. Was the laundry service temporarily out of service or was it permanently out of service, your post doesn't really go into much detail about either of these issues so it's really hard to say what's going on.

What are some persistent problems in hotels that you think are overdue for a solution?

This could be from the perspective of a guest or a hotel employee. Whether it’s an inconvenience for guests or a challenge for staff behind the scenes. For example, Isn’t it odd that when a guest...

 • At least one LEGITIMATELY firm pillow that doesn’t virtually disappear beneath my head.
 • 1. 3rd party shenanigans. 2. ‘Resort’ fees etc. 3. Little to no soundproofing 4. Triple sheeting but the duvet insert is missing and/or they use the old blanket.
 • Well, mine is larger in scale. I think building codes need to be changed that require more insulation in between the rooms. I mean seriously in most places you can hear people talking at a normal tone in the next room. They could do better than that.
 • I would love a hamper to put wet towels in instead of just all over the floor.
 • From someone who works in hotels- convincing the owners/corporate overlords that a true minimum of staffing needs to be maintained no matter how low the occupancy is. Guests shouldn't be shorted on service just because the occupancy is low. And mid-level salaried managers shouldn't be expected to kill themselves covering wage shifts to meet unrealistic corporate expectations. Yes, I'm one of those mid-level salaried managers. Thankfully just moved to a different hospitality group that understands this and has it built into the budget.

Regulatory body for hotels in Canada?

I recognize this is my own fault for not looking up reviews in advance of my stay, but I had an awful experience last weekend at a Travelodge in Richmond, it was called Travelodge by Wyndham Vancouver...

 • While I agree that a bug infestation is unacceptable. Travelodge is typically a low * hotel. Around the same level as most Days Inn, Red Roof, and the hotels with numbers in their name. In my experience, they aren't places to stay for a vacation. More like a place to stay for the night as you're travelling through the area. Maybe you've had better experiences with them in Canada. What I said above applies to the US
 • I don't think you're going to get much in this case. Ladybugs aren't the same thing as having a bunch of mice or cockroaches. Also, depending on the area, it can be extremely difficult to keep a hotel bug-free, even with regular, frequent spraying, etc. You might have better luck talking to Wyndham, if the manager isn't helpful, however.
 • https://youtube.com/shorts/uB5z296zVbI?feature=shared That's the video that shows the bugs just in one area of the room when laying on the bed. I have photos of clusters of them together too around 15 piled on top of each other in corners.
