Score bar still at 21

I was nearing the score of 22, like very very close, and I look at my score a few days ago and see that it's gone ALL of the way back close to the 21 mark. Meanwhile, my husband, who started 40 days a...

  • A couple of weeks ago, they did an "adjustment" of the score system for French to have it align more closely with the CEFR. My score actually increased. Perhaps they are doing adjustments on the scoring system of your language(s), but the new adjustments caused your scores to decrease.

Is this a problem for anyone else?

It’s not a big deal, I’m just curious if this is happening to anyone else. My widget is just showing a black screen.

  • Hi. Duolingo subreddits mods cannot help you with your Duolingo account or any issues you have. First off, [report your issue directly to Duolingo](https://www.duolingo.com/help/bug-report) (as we are not officially affiliated with Duolingo corporate). If you feel helpful, you also drop the following info in your post so the rest of us can hype you up—or at least relate to your pain: 1. **Username** (Don’t worry, no one's here to judge your “FrenchBaguetteMaster69” flex). 2. **Device** (iOS, Android, Web—because yes, it does matter if you’re battling Duo on your phone or your laptop). 3. **Detailed description of the problem** (Spill all the drama). 4. **Screenshots or error messages** (Receipts, people. Show us the proof of Duo's betrayal). If have Duolingo Super or Duolingo Max, email customer support’s inbox at [email protected] for help. Duolingo also has a Twitter account, so try DMing them there. We have a Duolingo staff member, Tracee Miller, on the subreddit as well. Please only contact her for urgent matters that directly affect you using Duolingo. If you do contact her, please give her your Duolingo username and the bug report number you received after filing a bug report. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/duolingo) if you have any questions or concerns.*
  • Remove the widget and return it after a few minutes, if it's still black remove it again, restart your phone and return the widget.

To those that say pronunciation isn't being picked up...

I guarantee it's because you're missing something in how to pronounce it correctly. I can't say to much about other languages, but in Japanese it's a morpheme, pitch accent, or morae problem. I say t...

  • Nope, there is a *known* bug where sometimes it just doesn’t hear anything you’re saying at all, even when pronouncing it exactly the same way you usually do that registers correctly…
  • I’ve been learning Spanish for a few years in school and for over a year on Duolingo, I’m pretty sure I know how to pronounce “la”
  • No, its not that. In Japanese, it can just not register a word at all no matter how you say it — including having a native speaker say it for you. And there are words, or even whole phrases, that it registers fine sometimes and not others. And sometimes it marks it correct when I am only half way through the sentence. And it sometimes marks me correct if I just say nonsense sounds but with the right rhythm. It's just bad voice to text, with a poorly designed system. Of course, people may also have problems with pronunciation on top of this — but Duolingo is not helping us get better. I often have another device with speech to text running when I do the exercises. It is much more reliable at picking up my mistakes, with far fewer false negatives.
  • No, you're wrong. There are lessons where it refuses to recognize specific words. For example, “tomodachi,” no matter how you pronounce it. Before the new speaking exercises were released this week, the app recognized the word perfectly in hundreds of exercises. In the attached clip you can see how it initially recognizes it, marking it in blue, but before finishing the sentence it “forgets” it.
