  • Yes, not uncommon. Hetzner is not a platform that will hold your hand through issues at the drop of a pin. Nothing negative against Hetzner or their staff, they are excellent. Just setting expectations that if you need something production you need to have a Plan-B and know the platform inside and out.

  • Instead of manually managing the DNS zones in the Web UI you could instead create API Keys and use those with for example a terraform provider like [germanbrew/hetznerdns](https://registry.terraform.io/providers/germanbrew/hetznerdns/latest) to come by this. Honestly if the company is big enough to have a dedicated CTO they should be using IaC already anyways so there should be almost no need to ever access the Web UI.
  • I manage the domains using a Git repository. Whenever I want to make a change, I just commit it, and a GitHub Action deploys the changes using DNSControl.
